Last night, our family attended the annual Scholarship Night at Woburn Memorial High School. It’s such a special night for everyone in the room. The graduating kids are filled with excitement, filling their days and nights with fun and special activities, their families are proud - a big milestone and chapter about to close, and eager to watch the next unfold. For us, and many others, it’s very bittersweet. We are afforded the opportunity to gift someone a scholarship, and we’re able to get up on stage, and I get to talk about my brother, and tell people all about him - it’s so special. But it’s also not easy. The majority of presenters that get up on that stage each year are awarding scholarships in memory of someone they love, there can be alot of mixed emotions there. Sad/Happy…so just an extra shout out to my fellow stage walkers and seat sitters that were riding the roller coaster yesterday.
Without further ado, this year’s Kevin J. McKenna Memorial Scholarship recipient is Meghan Qualey!
Meghan is going to be playing basketball at Roger Williams in the fall and majoring in Environmental Science. A few things I should tell you about Meghan: at 18 years old, she is not afraid to be herself. She is funny (and I don’t mean haha funny I mean hilariously funny). She pretty much cleaned up last night which tells me we weren’t the only ones who thought she was awesome. She’s going to do great things.
We caught up with Meghan and her family after the ceremonies and all my thoughts were vaildated. She really is just an awesome kid. We wish her all the very best!
