Kevin J. McKenna Memorial Scholarship Fund

A couple of weeks ago, our family had the privilege of attending Scholarship Night at Woburn Memorial High School. What an honor to be part of such an inspiring and truly touching evening. Woburn is such an amazing community and the generosity is second to none. The graduating class of 2018 has no doubt worked their collective tails off and so many of them were rewarded and acknowledged for that, receiving scholarship awards to assist in furthering their education.
Because of all of you, our family was able to get up on stage in front of hundreds of people and I was able to talk about my brother. I can’t really describe what this means to me, but I will say that Kevin is with me every second of every day, and to be able to share his light with hundreds of people, to talk about his laugh, and to give someone ten thousand dollars in his name...well. That, makes my heart burst.

This year’s recipient is Philip Byers JR., who will be pursuing a major in Business and Sports Management at Endicott College in the fall. We were able to catch up with Philip at Ferullo Field last week while he warmed up for his Senior Scrimmage. It was a trip being there, where we spent so many great hours in the sun watching Kev on the diamond. We wish Philip the very best continuing his education and taking full advantage of a bright future that lies ahead.

All of the funds raised for the Kevin J. McKenna Memorial Scholarship come from a single event: Kev’s annual golf tournament. This year’s tourney will be on Friday, Sept 21st - get a jump start and register today!

Philip Byers, Jr., 2018 Scholarship Winner

Reflecting on another year coming to a close, and once again find myself swelling with gratitude. We’ve put in a lot of hard work this year, the majority cultivating an amazing event held in late September – the 4th Annual Kevin J. McKenna Memorial Golf Outing. We had one of our most successful events to date – after the dust had settled, we were able to make a substantial donation to The Jimmy Fund as well as help victims of the devastating hurricanes that affected so many in our country. We were able to do this in addition to offering a $10,000 scholarship to a graduating student of Woburn Memorial High School next spring.

We were able to do all of this, because of all of you. Kevin would feel so honored, so proud, so loved. I know this because it’s exactly how I feel, how my family feels. We are eternally grateful, eternally blessed, eternally at a loss for words.
