2nd Annual Tourney in the Wraps

It's taken almost 7 weeks but Thank You notes are out and our house is almost back to normal!

You guys all make fun of me for my extensive thanks - and say you all know how thankful I am, but I truly don't see how that's possible. The love, time, effort, and support that you've all extended - family, friends, and complete strangers...is seriously something I can't wrap my head around.

I'll keep this short and sweet, you know I could go on forever...but I just wanted to say...shockingly...THANK YOU - to all who attended our event, donated something for our raffle, donated to the scholarship fund, donated their time, talents, and extended their very best wishes to our family. Kev's second tourney was, once again, a wild success. I'm so thrilled to report that we will once again be able to award a $10,000 scholarship to a WHMS student in the Spring!! How awesome is THAT?!

Also, mark your calendars for next fall: back by popular demand - the Third Annual Kevin J. McKenna Memorial Golf Outing will be held on Friday, September 9, 2016!

Cheers to Kev!

Peace and Chicken Grease

First Kevin J. McKenna Memorial Scholarship Awarded

The first Kevin J. McKenna Memorial Scholarship was awarded just two weeks ago. It was very rewarding to see the culmination of our hard work and support from our friends and family.

My family and I attended the 2015 Scholarship Night at Woburn Memorial High School on May 27th. It was a wonderful evening and we really enjoyed seeing the graduating class rewarded for their hard work over the past 4 years.

We presented Kev's award on stage, which was a little nerve-wracking, but it was really nice to be able to talk about Kevin and share some personal stories with the audience. Before I knew it, it was time to announce the winner. We were honored to announce Kelly Doherty as the very first recipient of the scholarship.

We chose Kelly for her impressive writing skills, passionate commitment to athletics, and serious dedication to family.

Kelly is the Captain for the Woburn High Gymnastics team. She was Team MVP and Middlesex League All-Star four years running, and was named Winter Sports All-Scholastic in both The Boston Herald and The Boston Globe. This year, she led her team to a share of the Middlesex League Championship, and finished fifth in the All-Around competition at the National High School Gymnastics Association Senior Invitational in Fort Meyers, FL. Nearly 200 elite high school gymnasts across 13 states competed for team and individual medals.

Yes, Kelly is an athlete - surely you can see why we chose her for Kev's award. In addition to dominating in the gym, Kelly coaches kids gymnastics, volunteers at a nursing home, is involved in various charitable events such as Relay for Life and Toys for Tots, and even spent some time abroad in France and Spain! Kelly does all of this while working a part-time job and was inducted into the National Honor Society this year.

Kelly will be attending the University of Connecticut in the fall and we wish her the very best. Congratulations, Kelly!
